MySpace.com … chances are you’ve heard of it. Maybe you even have a MySpace account that you use to keep in touch with friends and family. What started as a “simple” site for bands to get more exposure has exploded and practically become a household name.

Millions of people use MySpace every day. Each user creates a “profile” that they use to tell the world all about themselves, and what they are interested in.

MySpace is all about communication, and gives users lots of ways to “talk” to each other. Are you starting to smell an opportunity here? If not, you will soon!

An Overview of MySpace

MySpace is what is known as a “social network”. Their slogan is “a place for friends.” In a nutshell people use it to communicate with friends and family, and even meet new friends.

MySpace users create customized “profiles” where they can talk about themselves, their hobbies and interests, etc. Every MySpace user has a personal profile page.

Then a user begins to develop their own little private community within MySpace by inviting friends and family to join their “personal network”. People in a network can share photos and videos, write blogs or have discussions, chat, and communicate in various other ways.

Of course, everyone has friends so when someone joins your network you’re also linked indirectly to their friends. These people become part of your “extended network”.

MySpace makes it very easy to communicate with all of these people - both people in your “personal network” and friends of friends in your “extended network.”

MySpace is very huge. They recently passed the 100 MILLION account mark. And I read somewhere they get something crazy like 250,000+ new users per day signing up.

Technically there probably aren’t 100 million people using MySpace because some people create multiple accounts for various reasons, etc. but no matter what the real number is that’s still a lot of people. Supposedly MySpace gets more traffic than Google Search!

A Word of Warning

Before going any further I feel obligated to give you a heads up - if you’re an extremely “conservative” person you may want to avoid MySpace entirely.

Why? MySpace is a little “crazy”. There are so many people using it that it’s pretty much impossible for them to monitor everything and enforce their rules 100% of the time.

While using MySpace, it’s possible you’ll come across content that is “obscene” to you.

“Adult” content is strictly prohibited, but it’s possible you may stumble across some. You may also run across other questionable content, cuss words, etc.

Overall it’s not that bad at all and you won’t run across this type of thing very often. I’m just letting you know it is possible, in case seeing it even once would really bother you.

The bottom line is that there are just so many different people from all walks of life using MySpace, for so many different reasons and to do so many different things, you just never know what you’ll see or read. I just want you to be aware of that.

Using MySpace to Generate Greens

Anywhere there are that many people in one place, there is opportunity. Especially when it’s so easy to communicate with them. Technically you aren’t supposed to use MySpace for “commercial” purposes, but you can get a TON of greens without breaking the rules.

And even if you did, it wouldn’t matter much. The worst thing that would happen is that they might close your account, and you’d have to open a new one.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re not going to suggest that you do anything crazy … I just want you to understand that MySpace isn’t something to be afraid of using to generate greens.

Anyway, the general strategy with MySpace is to build up a large “friends list”. Then once you have a lot of “friends” you can indirectly promote your IFW referral links to get greens.

This isn’t nearly as difficult as it may sound at first, because quite frankly most people using MySpace are doing it to have fun, to be entertained, and make new friends. If you did nothing at all you’ll even find people inviting you to be their “friend” out of the blue.

Using a few simple strategies you’ll see that it’s very easy to build up a huge friends list and start generating greens from MySpace. It does take a bit of effort to set everything in motion, but it’s one of the best “long-term strategies” for getting tons of greens.

Setting Up Your MySpace Profile

The first thing you’ll need to do is create a free account at MySpace and set-up a profile. Initially your profile will look very “boring” and so you will want to customize it a bit.

If you look around MySpace a bit you’ll see that people have all sorts of cool stuff in their profiles, and hardly anyone uses the default profile layout. You don’t want to either.

Customizing your profile page is important to the overall success of MySpace marketing because it shows people that you are a “real” person. You want your future “friends” to see you as just a normal person using MySpace for fun - the way they probably are.

If you’ve never used MySpace before, this is going to take just a bit of time. Expect to spend a few hours messing around with this and learning how to totally customize your profile. Browse MySpace a bit to see what others are doing and to get some ideas.

For help getting started just use Google and search for phrases like “myspace codes”, “myspace profile”, etc. You’ll find literally 100s of different resources available to help you. Generally they will provide “codes” you just cut and paste into your profile.

Here are some links to help get you started …

For privacy reasons, do NOT use any of your real information when setting up your MySpace account and profile. Just make-up a new name for your new MySpace “personality”, and maybe even use a free Yahoo or other email address when registering.

Never add any real information about yourself to your profile such as photos, your address or phone number, etc. Anything you add to your MySpace profile is available for the whole world to see and you can never be too safe these days.

Making Friends on MySpace

MySpace is awesome for getting greens for two main reasons - the demographics of the average user is just about a perfect match for “free stuff”, and it’s easy to find and communicate with people who are interested in very specific topics.

You almost don’t even need to “target” certain types of people when looking to build up your friends list(s), because after all, who isn’t interested in getting stuff for free?

But if you want to, you can easily find and target very specific groups of people.

Here’s an example. Say you wanted to find people who like video games. Let’s get even more specific and say you want to find people who’re interested in the XBox game system.

Go to MySpace and click the “Groups” link near the top of almost any page. In the search box enter “xbox” and click the search button. You’ll be presented with a list of 311 different “groups” of people on MySpace who are interested in the XBox game system!

Look at the first group at the top of the list. The “Gamers” group. Just this one group alone has over 30,000 members in it! If you visit the groups main page, scroll down a little and then click the “View All Members” link you’ll see all 30,000+ members of this group.

From here you could start visiting these members’ profiles, and click the “Add Friend” button on each one. That will send a friend request to the user. If they accept your request they will become your new “friend”. You can do this as many times as you want.

Now obviously this is a little tedious, but over time you could have 1000s of Xbox “friends”. And chances are, lots of them would be interested in getting free Xbox games or upgrading their old XBox to the new XBox 360 system for free.

And this is just one example centered around the XBox. You could do the same thing with any number of specific groups of people who might be interested in free stuff, like:

  • People who like photography are always interested in free digital cameras
  • People who are into home theater systems might want a new plasma TV for free
  • People who love music might want one of the various cool iPods for free
  • Highschool and college students are perfect candidates for a free laptop
  • Women are a no-brainer for free designer handbags, etc.

A much easier way to get friends is to use what’s called a “friend bot” or “adder bot”. These programs will go into MySpace and find people based on whatever keywords you want, and automatically send 100s or even 1000s of friend requests for you!

There a bunch of these types of programs available, but here are the 3 most popular:

http://www.badderadder.com

http://www.adderrobot.com

http://www.bottower.com

Using one of these programs you can easily build up one or more accounts with friends lists in the 1000s. This is a “must have” to do serious MySpace marketing.

Another quick way to get a lot of untargeted friends is to join one or more “trains.” These are often referred to as a “friend train” or “whore train” (excuse the language!).

The way a train works is that you signup to let others know you are looking to get a lot of friends in a hurry, and since everyone on the “train” wants a lot of friends, you end up getting a lot of friends very quickly with this method.

Here are a few popular sites for doing this …

http://www.mstrain.net

http://www.rideatrain.net

http://myspacetrains.blogspot.com

Now again, these will be completely “untargeted” friends but that’s OK too because almost everyone is interested in free stuff. This is a great way to get started with a lot of friends if you don’t want to spend a few bucks buying a friend bot yet.

Time to Start Getting Friendly

So you’ve set-up your profile, and started to build your friends list(s). Remembering that MySpace is, after all, a social network - it’s time to socialize with your friends.

Start visiting your friends’ profiles. Leave comments for them. Join some discussions in the forums for the groups you’ve joined. Send people some private messages. Basically just “use” MySpace like everyone else and become part of the community.

The goal here is to just “blend in” so you can start indirectly promoting your IFW referral links. You don’t want to be a “spammer”, but you can be subtle about it.

For example, when you leave comments for people they will often click over to your profile to check you out. On your profile page you could have a little blurb about how you got a free XBox 360, and include one or more referral links if they are interested too.

Or maybe you’re posting in the forums of one of the groups you joined. If people are talking about a hot new game it would be appropriate to reply and say something like “Yeah this game rocks. I actually got it free from XYZ site. Here’s a link if you want to check it out.”

Another thing you can do is send “bulletins” to all of your friends quickly and easily.

Basically you just enter the message that you want to send and click a button. Your message, or bulletin as MySpace calls them, will instantly be sent to all of your friends.

You don’t want to abuse this by doing it every day, because people won’t like it and will remove themselves from your friends list, but this works really well when done correctly.

Every now and then you can send a bulletin to all your friends which will result in tons of greens for you. Here’s an example of a bulletin you could send out:

“Hey what’s up!

Have you played any new games recently? I found this site where you can get free XBox games and I’m trying to figure out what to get next.

Have you played [Hot New XBox 360 Game] yet? Man this game rocks.

If you want to get some free games, or even an entire XBox 360 system for free if you don’t have one yet, here’s the link - [Your Referral Link Here]. Believe it or not it really works. Check it out and let me know what you think!”

The key with bulletins is to make it sound “personal” and not like a sales pitch. If you do that, you will get tons of people clicking your links, and lots of greens.

If all of this sounds really tedious, it doesn’t have to be. A lot of people like to socialize and make new friends anyway so a lot of people find this to be a lot of fun.

If that’s not you, there are other options available to you. Remember the “friend bots” we talked about earlier? Some of them can actually automate a lot of this for you because they have the ability to leave comments for your friends, etc. 100% automatically.

If you really wanted to get serious, you can even hire people to do this type of thing for you. You can hire people to do all of this stuff for you for not much money at all. More than a few very serious “IFW pros” do this, and it can be extremely profitable.

Things to Know and Helpful Tips for This Method

Because this method is a little more involved we tried to break up the information into the different sections above, so just about everything has already been covered.

Surely it’s more involved then some of the other methods, but the rewards are bigger too. The great thing is that you can spend as much or as little time on this as you want.

Even if you did nothing more than send out an occasional bulletin to your friends, you can easily generate 10 greens a month. That’s worth about $500 to you, and once you have your friends list it doesn’t take more than a few minutes a week to send a bulletin.

On the other hand you may decide you really want to focus on MySpace marketing. This is more than enough to get you started, but if you really want to get into it there are entire courses on doing this. Just search Google for “myspace marketing” to find them.

There is a lot to MySpace, and the best way to get started is to just start using it and learn as you go. Before long you’ll know your way around like the back of your hand.

The only final advice we have is to reiterate that you don’t want to be too aggressive with anything you do, at least at the start. Don’t send out more than a few 100 friend requests per day, or too many bulletins in a short period of time.

Once you get the hang of things you may decide that you really like MySpace and really want to focus your efforts here. If so, then you can start experimenting with setting up multiple accounts and more aggressive tactics that are considered a “gray area”.
